Creativity is inherently healing.  My family and I have survived 3 direct hits by very strong hurricanes.  During these trying times I found myself doodling with crayons familiar spiraling images that I did spontaneously as a child.   Although I couldn’t control the weather, I couldn’t control whether a contractor would show up, or whether our electricity would be turned on, or if our insurance adjuster from our bankrupt insurance company would come – I could make a mark on paper with color.  Each stroke was liberating healing.  It was interesting to me that it was a spiraling hurricane that undid our lives and yet, it was spiraling waves of energy and color I so often found myself drawing, coloring and eventually painting.  The paintings have a primitive, simple even childlike quality, and yet, they were tremendously healing for me. I have decided to offer this work here to encourage others to create – to step out of your comfort zone and express simply what is inside with or without training and in so doing find the sense of liberation that comes from the power of spontaneous creativity, and perhaps most importantly, be willing to share it with others.  I continue to paint and it continues to bring me another way to enter and honor what the Native Americans call, the Great Mystery of life.
